The Alzar School is excited to be offering the F.L.O.W. 2010 leadership development course this summer. This three-week program will allow students to learn or practice whitewater skills on some of the best rivers in the country. Because the amazing rivers we will be exploring have stretches for everyone, it is open to students of all skill levels, beginner to experts. Students can master kayaks, as well as work on rafting skills.
Students will explore some of the Western United States rivers, practice our “10 Elements of Leadership,” and be a part of a fun, dynamic community composed of students from around the country. Unlike a more traditional summer camp program, this course is designed to enable teens to practice independence, work on skills that will help them academically, and earn valuable outdoor industry certifications.
There are lots of great reasons to join--F.L.O.W. is an amazing opportunity! For example, students will be eligible to earn academic credit. More advanced kayakers will have the opportunity to earn their Whitewater Kayak Instructor certification through the American Canoe Association, and all students can become endorsed as Leave No Trace Trainers. Plus, students will enjoy working with the U.S. Forest Service to complete a meaningful, relevant service-learning project.
The F.L.O.W. 2010 expedition will challenge students, offering authentic opportunities to be leaders. As our students go through these leadership experiences, they will receive helpful feedback from peers and instructors. These skills will transfer to other areas of their life, enabling students to accomplish extraordinary things. This course is not for everyone, but if you are a student who seeks a unique experience this summer (or if you know someone who fits that category), this is something a bit different from what most teens will be doing. This is a chance to do something noteworthy with summer vacation.
There are only a limited number of spots on the F.L.O.W. 2010 course, so it is important that our future leaders submit their application as soon as possible.
Note: The Alzar School operates under special use permits issued by the Klamath and Boise National Forest and is an equal opportunity service provider.
