I've been whitwater kayaking since 1995. My "type" of boating has been mostly around steep creeking, especially New England micro-creeks, though I'll boat anything if it gets me on the water. I taught whitewater courses in college for credit (Dartmouth in NH), have multiple swiftwater rescue courses under the belt, and lived in my car after college boating out west (CO, WY, ID, OR, WA). I have experience on creeks and rivers in ME, NH, VT, MA, NY, PA, WV, MD, VA, TN, GA and NC. Some of my favorite runs over the years have been the Narrows of the Green and the Little White Salmon (WA).
I went on hiatus during 5 years of graduate school in Chicago (i.e., the barren steppes of the mid-west) from 2000 to 2005. I've been in Washington DC for the past 2.5 years, and I am finally reaching out to start getting connected to the boating community here (having been tied up over the past couple years between work, family, buying a condo and working on renovating it, etc.).
That said, I'm psyched to find folks to paddle with -- especially on weekends to go out steep creekin' in WV -- but also here in DC on the Potomac as well. I need some folks to run Great Falls with.
I'm fully geared with overly complete rescue kits and such (my background is in emergency management and disaster response, as well as having some EMT and search and rescue experience).
