Hey, I didn't even know someone put that video up. I wish the weather could be more like that day. Nice and warm. Hopefully soon. We are heading up North this morning in search of some freezing whitewater!!

A roll will definitely be important in cold spring water. I can speak from experience that paddling without one limits your confidence and will let fear become a factor when you should be having fun. Keep practicing, I still am!!

Hey Joe (props to Jimi),

My buddy and I are trying to get other intermediate kayakers together for paddling this spring on the North and South Shore. We are using this forum to network. Many of the Rapids Riders are Class 4 paddlers or playboaters. We do paddle Class 4 rivers but are most comfortable in Class 2-3 water and are more interested in Creeking than playboating at this time. If you are interested in hitting some runs this spring up north. Join the Minnesota InterMIDIOT Paddlers group (on this site, we just joined over the weekend). as we start to plan spring trips looking at safety in numbers and new challenges to bring up our skill levels. We will be at the Pool Sessions at the BP community center for the next two Sundays as well. I drive a yellow Jefe and my friend drives a red Mamba.

As far as the wetsuit, remember, the man makes the clothes!!!

Yep. I was there in the Bear Paw Baseball Cap and dark grey shirt and may have been over in the corner after buying a hardly used $30 wetsuit. Don't tell anybody but it is a Farmer Jane XL, the only difference being a little more freedom up there and not a two-directional zipper. I have a shorty XL but needed the leg protection. After a while a guy brought in a couple of old playboats and we were all floor-hip snapping and having a fine time.

Adios. Maybe see you Saturday at the Rapidsriders/Rovers/etc. Gear Swap. FYI: I went for an April 2008 trip and afterwards the guys, when they saw I wasn't wearing a wetsuit, they got a little upset. Since I swam, I was shivering too much to be concerned at the time. I at least got a shorty now. That water was COLD. You could die from hypothermia they said.

The pool? Darn near weekly. I'm 98% sweep rolling upward to my right, but since totally have no clue on my offside...but that's normal I guess but I'm trying to remedy that. I have the wrong boat for a backdeck roll. Upcoming sessions are Feb 1 - open pool. 2/8 - Paddling Skills, 2/15 and 2/22 - newbie rolling clinics. Before you come to the rolling clinic, hip snap like crazy on the floor by yourself in a boat...do a 100 of them, a 1000 of them...leaving your head and arms on the floor and letting your vertebrae go up one at a time until your torso then head pulls up. That is most of what a roll is. I hope to show at the gear swap...just to see browse the stuff for sale. Racks: I bought a beat-up Pyranha Burn and welded it so I could get a boat into my Cherokee so I didn't have to tie anything on the bare-bones Thule racks (this jeep didn't come with racks).

Oh yeah, that's where Isanti is. Duh. I did the Rum from Isanti downward in fast current with River Riders but missed the Snake in high water (:-( Otherwise, I did alot last year but this year I must hit the Kettle, the St. Louis and Cloquet, etc. Right now it's rolling clinics with RapidsRiders in preparation to getting invited to do the Kettle.

I think I saw that you were from up there by St. Cloud. What is a Sauk Rapids run like and when does it dry up for the summer?
