yo, awesome trip today! Tom's gonna start paying me, so I'll probably be up there as much as possible now.

Looks like the guide thing isn't happening. I won't be old enough to guide rafts. I'm open to safety boating, but idk if they'll take me on the Black. I may end up working with Challengers on the Middle Moose and Salmon trips.

That is a great drop for shots. Drop me an email, I have some upcoming things going on with Nookie that you and Ben will like.

lol, thanks. I'm just happy people are still willing to boat with me. Some of the comments on message boards were horrendous. I personally think it made me a better boater. I'm friends with Liane O'hora and Marty Murphy. Marty was a guide boater for one of the companies, I think it was ARO.

Cool, I've been boating about 4 years now. Are you familiar with "The Beaverator Kid"? That's me about 2 years ago. I'm not sure which company I'm looking at, I think a friend of mine has connections at ARO.

Hey Dan! I'm always surprised when I find boaters as close to me as Watertown. This summer I think I might become a raftguide up on the Black. How long have you been boating?

Thanks Danny - I've sent Tony an email. Would you mind telling me what kind of pants you wear with this top, and what kind of layering you do underneath? This is listed as a shell - can you layer up under it without it being too tight?

Thanks

Hey man...
sent you a friend request and just saw your video comment with the tuck question... not really for rolling, but more for the entry... if you're not tucked up real tight when you pencil in it can hurt or peel you back to the back deck causing problems. sometimes the landing will be more aerated on one side than the other so it may be better to tuck into the aeration. Or a stroke may be needed for an exit or entry move and that may also determine which side you tuck on. Personally I just have a habit of tucking on the right unless there's a reason not to and it seemed to work better off that lip. As far as hidden technique goes, I like to really shove my paddle down into the landing because it seems like it makes staying tucked up on impact a lot easier. Also throwing all your weight forward too quickly will lift your bow and leaning back will cause you to pitch. Hope this helps man... feel free to send me a message if you have any more questions...

I am going to work Moosefest in, I should know by the end of Gauley if it is a go. And if so, I could use some help, thanks man.

Married
About Me:
I live in Watertown, NY on the Black River but I grew up paddling in the South Eastern US. That means I tuck hard when I flip. I guess I would consider myself a class IV boater on a good day. I like to surf, alot. Big glassy waves are the place to be. I like rivers that drop serious gradient and I'm hoping to go for more vert in the coming seasons. I'm married to a beautiful woman who lets me play on the river pretty much whenever I want and I have a son who will be kayaking as soon as he can hold a paddle. I've also been raft guiding on the Black since the summer of '06.

New Beginnings: Next Mountain

Hey everyone! I'm not usually into shameless self promotion, but I've begun a new design company called Next Mountain. You can find out all the information at www.nextmtn.com.
Currently I'm focusing on web design and print (business cards etc.). I have a few customers already from seemingly opposite ends of the spectrum. On one side is Ben Whittle who is a kayak instructor and on the other is my church (the site should… Continue

This just in...

Well the Cash's are at it again. Offspring version 2.0 just arrived (ok like two months ago!). Elliana Grace popped out at an impressive 8 lbs 12 oz on March 3. I'd post a picture but she's my daughter and she's not allowed near any kayakers until she turns 35 or I'm dead, which ever comes last! Until then she can paddle with her brother and myself. I'm not sure how we'll get rid of the other 'yakers though..maybe I'll leak vicious rumors about parasites in the water. Yeah that's it...parasites.

A Lesson From Scrubs...

If anyone knows me, even a little bit, they know that one of my favorite shows is Scrubs. I don't make it any secret. And really I don't think that it's "the best show ever," but for whatever reason it cracks me up.
The other day my wife and I were watching the episode that featured Michael J. Fox as a guest star. What caught my attention was a line of advice that he gave a fellow doctor who was experiencing a lack of confidence.
"If there's something that you know you can do...then do it."
I th… Continue

Best mantra ever...

While I was perusing the interweb I came across a blog of a kayaker who had just ran a very impressive looking 80 ft. waterfall. But what really caught my attention was the title of his blog: The Best Kayaker is the one having the Most Fun. I couldn't help but marvel at that simple phrase. Really, I've always been a little self-conscious on the river. Even though I have lot's of experience on the river, and my skills are pretty good, I'm usually very far from being even remotely close to the bes… Continue

So much water... so little free time...

Yesterday was a great day for all Black River guides. Due to the hard rains across the watershed, the river had swelled to over 8,000 cfs. even in the spring the water didn't get this high! To top it all off the Glen Park Dam gave us 3,800 cfs in the gorge, as opposed to our normal 1700-2000. My highlights of the day would include running Cruncher, which had turn into a 8 foot tall curling hole with very real raft flipping potential, and running a high water Poop Chute with customers. Poop Chute… Continue
